GA Maclachlan Inc is proud to support The Sleep Fairy Project, an inspiring initiative that brings comfort and reassurance to children undergoing surgery in public hospitals across the Western Cape. We are honoured to contribute to a project that replaces fear with courage and care when it matters most.
The Sleep Fairy Project, an inspiring initiative under the Tygerberg Hospital Children’s Trust, is gently transforming the surgical experience for children in public hospitals across the Western Cape.
Founded at Tygerberg Hospital by a group of passionate anaesthetists with a special interest in paediatrics, the project focuses on easing the fear and anxiety many young patients face before surgery. Through whimsical recovery-room murals, play therapy with bubbles and stickers, and a beautifully written children’s book, the Sleep Fairy Project brings comfort, courage, and calm when it matters most.
At the heart of the initiative is “Themba and the Sleep Fairy” — a gentle, engaging story written by the project’s founder to help children understand their surgical journey in a reassuring way. The book also doubles as a colouring book, with each child receiving a pack of crayons to bring the story to life.
Currently being translated into Afrikaans and isiXhosa, the book is provided free of charge to children in public hospitals across the Western Cape.
