Under the recently announced timetable, production of green ID books will end on 31 March 2027, and these documents will no longer be recognised as valid identification from 31 March 2028.
We encourage clients who still use a green ID book to arrange their Smart ID application well before the deadline. The change forms part of efforts to reduce identity theft and strengthen identity verification.
Why this matters for your company
Accurate and current identity information is important when attending to company administration, including beneficial ownership submissions and changes to directors recorded with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC).
Applying early will allow time to address any application or verification difficulties before an urgent transaction arises.
What should you do?
- Apply for a Smart ID card through Home Affairs or a participating bank branch offering this service.
- Confirm the application requirements and availability with your chosen branch.
- Once your Smart ID card has been issued, contact our office so that we can advise whether updated identification is required for your company records.
Please contact us if you require assistance with your CIPC records, beneficial ownership submissions or director amendments.
